A RESOLUTION on a global strategy to control and ultimately eradicate peste des petits ruminants (PPR) was among a number of measures adopted by the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) at its 82nd general session in Paris last month.
Describing the eradication of PPR as ‘a public good,’ the OIE says that the distribution of the disease has expanded over the past 10 years and it is now present over a large part of Africa, the Middle East and Asia. As a devastating disease of small ruminants, it has been selected as one of the top priority diseases to be addressed by the OIE.
