THE recent letter from Max Murray and others at Glasgow veterinary school (VR, March 1, 2014, vol 174, p 227) reminded me of the immense contribution of Professor Sir William Weipers to the veterinary profession. I regard him as the outstanding veterinary surgeon of the 20th century. I joined the staff of the Glasgow veterinary school, as a new graduate, in 1960 and soon became aware of his forward thinking, and his kind and generous approach to life.
