Veterinary Record's 125th anniversary was marked by a triple launch event at the BVA's headquarters in London last week. The event saw the launch of a new book tracing the history of the BVA by Edward Boden, a former Veterinary Record editor, along with the launch of two new BVA journals, Veterinary Record Case Reports and Veterinary Record Open. The two new journals join Veterinary Record and In Practice and will be published online.
Mr Boden was editor of Veterinary Record from 1973 to 1990. His book, ‘Punching Above Their Weight’, documents the foundation of the BVA (originally the National Veterinary Association) in 1882 and the struggle of veterinarians to raise their practice from ‘disorganised pragmatic beginnings to a science-based, politically influential body’. It forms part of a series, ‘New Perspectives on Veterinary History’, published by Winchester University Press.
