Charity calls for a rabbit welfare code of practice

An animal rescue charity is gathering signatures on an e-petition at calling on the Government to introduce a code of practice for the welfare of domestic rabbits. Camp Nibble, which is based in west Yorkshire, says that, despite opening its doors to many types of small animal, rabbits consistently make up 80 per cent of its residents. It says that there is an obvious gap between the general public's traditional view of pet rabbit keeping and the modern day view held by welfare organisations and the rabbit welfare community.

Dental exam success

Claire Harrison, a Registered veterinary nurse at DentalVets in North Berwick has become the first veterinary nurse outside North America to be certified as a Veterinary Technician Specialist (Dentistry) by the Academy of Veterinary Dental Technicians in the USA. The VTS (Dentistry) is the only dental-based qualification for veterinary nurses to be recognised by a national regulatory authority. Credentials include a minimum of 3000 hours involvement in dental cases and a mentoring process that includes participation in a wide variety of advanced dental cases over a minimum of two years.

Badgers and bovine TB video

A video made by the Veterinary Association for Wildlife Management on badgers and bovine TB was shown at the CLA's Game Fair in Warwickshire on July 20. The association says it was prompted to make the six-minute video to counteract the ‘huge body of disinformation in the public domain’ and to inform politicians, scientists, farmers and the general public of the effect the disease has on badgers. Revalidation of CPD provider

CPD provider Vet Learning recently completed a six-month revalidation of its courses by Middlesex University. The company offers modules for the RCVS Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice and the designated certificate in general practice (CertAVP[GP]). It says that, following the revalidation, new modules, courses and services will be made available.
