THE British Small Animal Veterinary Association has written to Public Health England to ask if it would be prepared to review its risk assessment for front-line staff in veterinary practices – vets, veterinary nurses and receptionists – with regard to pre-exposure vaccination against rabies.
In its letter, the association points out that changes to pet travel regulations, which came into force on January 1, 2012, now allow dogs, cats and ferrets to enter the UK from an EU country only 21 days after vaccination, with no requirement for confirmatory blood testing and a six-month wait period.
