THE World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) and the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) held a symposium last week to explore strategies to manage and eliminate canine rabies. The meeting culminated in the two organisations issuing a joint statement setting out a course of action to make progress in controlling the disease, which, despite being preventable, kills an estimated 60,000 people each year, many of them children.
