Computer technology to help detect pain in cats

COMPUTER-based technology is to be used by researchers at the University of Lincoln to analyse the facial expressions of pet cats before and after treatment, with a view to developing an efficient mechanism for the early detection of pain.

The study, which is expected to last five years, has been funded by a research grant of nearly £400,000 from Feline Friends, a Derbyshire-based charity.
