IN tribute to James Iain Millan (VR, June 29, 2013, vol 172, p 690), Iain A. Maclean and David McCormick write: Iain Millan was born and brought up in Bathgate with his sisters, Edith and Ruth, in the company of a cavalcade of family pets and farmyard friends.
He progressed effortlessly through Balbardie Primary School and Bathgate Academy to arrive at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies in the autumn of 1985 as a straight-A student. Although a diligent student, it could never be said that he took himself or his studies too seriously. Iain's was a happy disposition, peppered with an irreverent sense of humour and a healthy appetite for fun. He was a hard worker – we all were – but at 22.00 we would often ‘down tools’, put on our Walkmans and stroll through the darkened streets of Edinburgh. These were peaceful and relaxing times spent in Iain's company and they are treasured memories.
