UNCONTROLLED movements of infected animals from eastern Africa and the Arabian peninsula are the most likely source of an introduction of Rift Valley fever (RVF) into Mediterranean countries neighbouring the EU, according to a scientific opinion from the Animal Health and Welfare (AHAW) panel of the European Food Safety Authority.
The AHAW panel was asked by the European Commission to provide an update on the global occurrence of RVF and possible changes in its distribution over the past 10 years.
