Dealing with cases of animal abuse in practice

According to the Links Group, these are four steps a vet should take when dealing with a suspected case of animal abuse. They are included in a guidance document produced by the group to help vets and other practice staff recognise and deal with cases of animal abuse, particularly if domestic violence towards people is also suspected.

The Links Group is a multiagency organisation that was established to promote the welfare and safety of people and animals that are victims of domestic violence. At a session discussing the group's work during the BSAVA congress on April 6, its chairman, Freda Scott-Park, outlined some of the initiatives it had been promoting.
