Veterinary practice makes best companies list

Statistics from

A VETERINARY practice group has made the 2013 Sunday Times Best 100 Small Companies to Work For list. White Cross Vets, which has practices across the Midlands and the north of England, was ranked at number 48 on the list and it believes it is the first veterinary group to achieve the maximum three-star rating in the process.

The Sunday Times Top 100 Companies to Work For accreditation system was established to recognise and reward excellence in the workplace and is based on voluntary employee surveys. A one-star award is acknowledged as ‘very good’, two stars as ‘outstanding’ and three stars as ‘an extraordinary company to work for’.

The judging process involved interviewing all team members to find out how they felt about working for the practice group. White Cross Vets ranked particularly highly for personal growth, wellbeing and leadership in the survey, with 88 per cent of staff claiming ‘the job is good for my personal growth’ and 100 per cent agreeing that their team was fun to work with.

‘We are thrilled to have gained this award as it is validation of everything we do at White Cross Vets,’ said Tim Harrison, managing director of the practice. ‘This prestigious national award really is a great achievement.

‘Our practice is a fusion of everything I've learnt in my career. The most important factor of our success is our positive culture and our team are at the heart of this. Over the years, I've seen both positive and negative people cultures and it's the best practices that value their people and the relationships they have with them.’

Mr Harrison added that the key to the practice's success was being a ‘family business’. ‘We are involved in a caring and often emotional business, looking after pets that are members of the family,’ he said. ‘We are passionate about pets and passionate about our team. If you get these basics right then they are the foundations for success.’

He said that the group was looking forward to entering the awards again next year and would ‘continue to proudly fly the flag for veterinary practices across the country’.
