IN further tribute to Bryan Collett Down (VR, August 18, 2012, vol 171, p 180), Stuart Watson writes: Bryan qualified from the London Vet School in 1955 where he received both the Fourth Year Centenary Prize and the Clinical Prize.
He married Diana in l954, while still a student, and took up his first job as a Veterinary Officer in Uganda where he worked from 1955 to 1958. While there, their first child, Nick, was born in 1957. On returning from Uganda, Bryan decided to go to Edinburgh to study for his DTVM, which he obtained in l960. In that same year Sarah, his daughter, was born. For a short time, Bryan tried out a practice in Marmsbury but, like so many others before him, the Africa bug had bitten him, so in 1961 he set out for Tanganyika.
