Jim Parkins and Norman Ritchie write: Gordon Hemingway held the chair of veterinary animal husbandry for 20 years at the University of Glasgow veterinary school and was one of Britain's leading ruminant nutritionists.

Gordon grew up in Yorkshire and attended King Edward VII School in Sheffield. He graduated from the University of Leeds and his early career was spent lecturing at the Royal Agricultural College at Cirencester and later working for ADAS.
