Select committee presses for code of conduct on milk contracts

NEWS that talks on a voluntary code of conduct for milk contracts had begun was welcomed by the House of Commons Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee (EFRACom) earlier this week, after the chair of the committee, Anne McIntosh, had written to Jim Paice, the minister for agriculture, to outline the committee's frustration at ‘the ongoing failure of the Government and dairy industry’ to agree a voluntary code.

In her letter on July 23, Miss McIntosh said that the committee remained deeply concerned about the current crisis in the dairy sector. The EFRACom met on July 17 to take evidence from representatives of each stage …
