THE Heads of the UK Veterinary Schools may feel unable to comment on the wisdom or advisability of opening another UK veterinary school (VR, November 17, 2012, vol 171, p 509) but as one of the generation of the profession who have lived and worked through a golden era of our profession – free university tuition, well-funded and high quality veterinary research and education, a highly-regarded profession and an expanding one within a thriving national economy – I must do so. To be blunt, this is suicidal for the veterinary profession in the longer term.
