VETERINARY staff are in a good position to recognise differences in the behaviour of their clients that might suggest domestic abuse, according to Christine Goodall, founder of the Medics Against Violence (MAV) initiative.
Dr Goodall was speaking at a lunchtime debate organised by the BVA during the London Vet Show on November 15. Entitled ‘Making the links between human and animal abuse’, the debate discussed the activities of the Links Group, a multiagency interest group that promotes the welfare and safety of vulnerable children, animals and adults so that they are free from violence and abuse, and MAV, a charity begun by healthcare workers in Scotland that aims to prevent violence.
