CONCERN that badger culling could become a ‘costly distraction from nationwide TB control’ has been expressed by a group of 31 senior scientists in a letter published in The Observer on October 14.
Among the signatories to the letter were Professor Sir Patrick Bateson, president of the Zoological Society of London, Professor John Bourne, former chairman of the Independent Scientific Group on Cattle TB, Professor Lord Krebs, on whose proposals the Randomised Badger Culling Trial was based, and Professor Lord May, a former chief scientific adviser to the Government.
