IN tribute to Ernest Brian Wain (VR, February 25, 2012, vol 170, p 210), Hugh W. Reid writes: Brian Wain was born on April 23, 1943, one of five children, at Elford Park Farm, near Tamworth, Staffordshire. This was a traditional mixed farm and introduced Brian to the realities of farm life from an early age. Following initial education at the local Elford Primary, Brian proceeded to the Cathedral School, Lichfield, where, much to his mother's disappointment, he narrowly escaped being selected as a chorister. He distinguished himself there, being appointed head boy in 1957, before entering Ellesmere College to complete his secondary education, excelling in the Royal Welsh Cadets and on the rugby field and being selected deputy head boy in his final year. During this period he was active on the family farm and developed a profound interest in livestock, which was reinforced by the local vet, Micky Steele-Bodger, who enthused Brian to train to be a vet.
