NEW research by the Kennel Club and the Animal Health Trust (AHT) is aiming to help breeders tackle high levels of inbreeding that can reduce fertility levels in dogs. It is hoped that the work could help boost the survival of vulnerable native breeds that the Kennel Club fears may be at risk of extinction.
The research, which is being conducted at the Kennel Club Genetics Centre at the AHT, aims to determine how many dogs with different genomes are contributing to the various breed populations.
