SCHMALLENBERG virus (SBV) had been confirmed on 83 farms in England by February 27. In an update, the AHVLA reported that five of the positive results had been confirmed from cattle premises and the remainder from sheep premises. It also noted that none of the affected farms had reported importing animals during 2011 from affected areas in mainland Europe.
In addition to counties already affected, cases had been identified in Berkshire and Gloucestershire, as well as on the Isle of Wight, all on sheep holdings.
