‘Animal-assisted facilities: companionship works its magic’ was the title of a symposium organised by the Federation of European Companion Animal Veterinary Associations during the recent WSAVA/FECAVA/BSAVA congress in Birmingham. It was clear from the presentations that, while animal-assisted interventions can bring many benefits for people, the welfare of the animals must also be taken into account. Suzanne Jarvis reports.
