THE United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced on April 24 that a case of BSE had been confirmed in a dairy cow from central California. This was the fourth case of BSE to have been detected in the USA, and the first since 2006.
In a statement, John Clifford, the USDA chief veterinary officer, said that samples from the animal had tested positive for atypical BSE, which was not generally associated with an animal consuming infected feed. …
