IN a further tribute to William Alexander Scott, M. V. Dale writes: It was with great sadness that I read of the passing of Alec Scott, and I admired Brian Cox's eloquent and fitting obituary (VR, February 18, 2012, vol 170, pp 184–185). I'd like to add some words on behalf of the very many students who saw practice at Howbury Street and the fortunate ones who went on to become assistants there. I was one of the latter, and my subsequent career has been the richer for the privilege of having been influenced by a talented, charismatic, generous and supportive mentor.
