MEPs back country of origin labelling for fresh meat

MEMBERS of the European Parliament have voted in favour of new rules on the labelling of food, which will mean that the country of origin of fresh meat from pigs, sheep, goats and poultry will have to be shown on the label. The country of origin of beef is already required on labels under existing European rules.

The vote on July 6 means that the European Commission now has up to two years to introduce rules that will implement the new requirements once the new regulation comes into force. Once the legislation …
