Thirteen convicted in illegal veterinary medicines case

A PROSECUTION brought by the Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) against what it describes as ‘Europe's biggest ever illegal veterinary medicine business’ has resulted in 13 people being convicted.

The case concerned the sale and distribution of unauthorised and prescription-only veterinary medicines. The medicines included non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, anabolic steroids, antibiotics, sedatives and pain control treatments for a range of species, including horses, cows, sheep, pigs and companion animals.
