FURTHER to the Feature article ‘Taking up the public health challenge’ (VR, October 8, 2011, vol 169, pp 384–385), I would like to make the following comments. While the article highlights a number of issues relating to the public health challenge, the authors discuss reconciling public and private good with particular emphasis on prescribing antimicrobial agents.
