A CALL for the statutory regulation of the veterinary nursing profession was made at the House of Commons last week during an event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the introduction of training for veterinary nurses.
Speaking at a reception hosted by MP Roger Gale on October 11, Liz Branscombe, chairman of the RCVS's Veterinary Nurses Council, pointed out that qualified veterinary nurses made a unique contribution to animal health and welfare as the custodians of the nursing care of their patients. ‘This valuable role should not be entrusted to just anyone,’ she said.
