MPs' support for ban on wild animals in circuses

A MOTION calling on the Government to introduce a ban on the use of wild animals in circuses has been backed by MPs following a recent debate in Parliament.

Proposed by Mark Pritchard, Conservative MP for The Wrekin, the motion proposed: ‘That this House directs the Government to use its powers under section 12 of the Animal Welfare Act 2006 to introduce a regulation banning the use of all wild animals in circuses to take effect by 1 July 2012.’ It followed the Government's recent announcement that it intended to introduce a licensing regime to govern …
