IN recent years, ferrets have become popular pets in Britain, and a number of books and scientific papers have appeared that help practising veterinary surgeons to treat these animals. In addition, the welfare needs of pet ferrets have been recognised by the appearance of (for example) the BVA Animal Welfare Foundation leaflet on this subject (BVA AWF 2010).
