WSPA estimates that 30,000 animals need emergency shelter in Japan

THE World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) has committed US $150,000 to support relief efforts to help animals affected by the earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan on March 11.

WSPA sent a disaster assessment and response team to Japan on March 15 (VR, March 19, 2011, vol 168, p 288). Its team has confirmed that there is potential for assistance to be given, and has identified local groups that are best placed to deliver this.
