Wildlife is highly valued, and a source of interest and enjoyment for many people, but wildlife disease is a cause for concern. Identifying and investigating pathogens harboured by wild species is no easy task. Paul Duff and colleagues from the Veterinary Laboratories Agency (VLA) discuss why surveillance for wildlife diseases is important, and how it is being approached in the UK
