The Pet Travel Scheme (PETS) helps keep the UK free from disease by ensuring that travelling pet dogs, cats and ferrets meet certain requirements. However, some of those requirements may no longer be allowed after 2010, when a derogation under EU law, which allows the UK, Ireland, Sweden and Malta to apply stricter requirements than other EU member states, is due to come to an end.
