Leading the response to notifiable disease


In the event of an outbreak of notifiable disease, it is imperative that there is a quick and effective response. A session at the bva Congress organised by the Association of Government Veterinarians discussed how preparations for, and the response to, outbreaks of disease have changed since the foot-and-mouth disease (fmd) epidemic of 2001. The Lessons to be Learned Inquiry into that epidemic identified nine lessons for disease control and, at the congress session, three speakers discussed how these have been applied.
