This year's congress of the Association of Veterinary Students (AVS) was held at Nottingham veterinary school over the first weekend in February. It promised to be a spectacular event, with students at the UK's newest veterinary school, which only opened in 2006, keen to bring together and motivate peers from the UK and Dublin. This was a big task for a school made up of just Year 0, 1 and 2 students. Their theme was ‘Working animals pushed to the limit’ and the congress included not only lectures, but also practical demonstrations and ‘hands on’ workshops. Jennifer Hall, the newly elected AVS treasurer and one of the congress organisers, reports.
