Broadening the mix of veterinary surgeons

Abstract

With recent figures showing that around 80 per of new veterinary graduates are female and upper/middle class, concerns about the increasing homogeneity of the veterinary profession have sparked a number of initiatives aimed at broadening its demographic. One of the most recent has been the launch of the VetNet Lifelong Learning Network in April 2007, a national network of veterinary schools, universities and colleges committed to providing more opportunities for students on vocational courses to enter higher education.
